How many toilets does a construction site need in California?

A California construction site needs at least one toilet for every 20 workers of each sex, or fraction of 20, under Cal/OSHA 8 CCR 1526. A crew of 1 to 20 needs 1 toilet. A crew of 21 to 40 needs 2. Cal/OSHA also requires washing facilities, so add a handwashing station.

Crew size (one sex)Cal/OSHA minimumOur comfort recommendation
1–101 toilet1 standard unit, weekly service
11–201 toilet2 units weekly, or 1 unit serviced twice a week
21–402 toilets3–4 units + 1 handwashing station
41–603 toilets5–6 units + 2 handwashing stations
61–1004–5 toilets8–10 units + 2–3 stations, service 2× weekly

Legal minimum from Cal/OSHA 8 CCR 1526; federal sites also follow 29 CFR 1926.51 Table D-1. Our recommendation uses 1 unit per 10 workers on weekly service, the common industry planning figure. Confirm site-specific rules with your safety lead; this is not legal advice.

Where should a job site porta potty go?

A job site porta potty should sit on firm, level ground within 25 feet of where our service truck can park, away from the dumpster, material drops and crane swing. Keep it close to the work so crews do not lose time walking. On open Petaluma lots, we stake units against afternoon wind.

  • On the street? A City of Petaluma encroachment permit is needed before delivery; review takes about 4 business days.
  • Locked site? Give us the gate code or a lockbox. Service happens during your posted hours.
  • Winter mud? Ask for a plywood base so the unit stays level on wet clay.
  • Multi-story job? We can place a unit at each staging area.

How does billing work on a long job?

Long job site rentals bill every 28 days, not by calendar month. Each 28-day cycle includes the unit and one service visit per week. Delivery and pickup are one-time charges. Billing stops on the day you call or text for pickup, and you are not charged for unused days in the next cycle.

Contractor accounts can get monthly invoices emailed to the office, with the job address and PO number on each line. Tax-exempt agencies send the exemption certificate once and it is applied to every invoice.

Do you serve remodels when the house bathroom is out?

A remodel crew needs its own toilet as soon as the house bathroom is torn out or the homeowner asks crews not to use it. One standard unit on the driveway covers a typical kitchen, bath or roof crew of up to 10 for a week between services.

For high-end remodels, a flushing unit with a sink keeps crews from tracking into the house to wash up.

Can you deliver a job site toilet today?

Same-day job site delivery is routine inside 30 miles of Petaluma when you call by 1 pm Monday through Saturday. Farther sites need an 11 am or 9 am call.

What does a monthly job site unit cost?

A standard job site unit typically runs $195–$295 per 28-day cycle with weekly service, plus a one-time delivery and pickup charge of about $75–$125.

Can you lock the unit after hours?

We can add a hasp so your foreman can padlock the unit overnight. Leave a key or code for the service tech.

Do you pump office-trailer holding tanks?

Holding tank pump-outs for job site office trailers can be added to your route. Tell us the tank size and access point when you call.

Can I move the unit as the job moves?

Call ahead and the next service visit can shift the unit to a new spot on the same site, as long as the truck can reach it.
