How many handwashing stations do I need?
Plan one two-sink handwashing station for every 3 to 4 toilets at an event, and one beside every food or catering line. A station holds about 350 washes, so an event of 300 guests usually needs 2 stations. Farm crews need one handwashing facility per 20 workers under Cal/OSHA 8 CCR 3457.
| Setting | Stations | Basis |
|---|---|---|
| Backyard party, 100 guests, food | 1 | Our planning rule: 1 per 3–4 toilets |
| Wedding, 200 guests | 2 | 1 near restrooms, 1 near catering |
| Harvest crew, 35 workers | 2 | Cal/OSHA 8 CCR 3457: 1 per 20 workers |
| Construction crew, 12 | 1 | Cal/OSHA requires washing facilities on site |
When does a separate sink beat a flushing unit?
A separate handwashing station is the better choice when many people share a few toilets, when food is served, or when crews come off a dusty site. One station serves several standard units at once, while a sink inside a flushing unit serves only the person in that unit.
For a wedding, pair standard units with one handwashing station near the bar, or skip the station by choosing flushing units with sinks.

How is a handwashing station serviced?
A handwashing station is drained, refilled with 22 gallons of fresh water, wiped down and restocked with soap and towels at every service visit. On long rentals that is weekly. Heavy food-service events can book a mid-event refill.
Cal/OSHA field sanitation rules also call for a sign saying the water is for handwashing only. Our stations carry that label.

How much does a handwashing station rental cost?
A handwashing station typically runs $150–$250 for an event with delivery and pickup, and less per day when added to a monthly rental.
Does the station need a hose?
No hose is needed. The 22-gallon tank is filled before delivery and refilled at each service.
Is there hot water?
Our standard stations use room-temperature water. Ask about heated sinks for winter food events.
Where does the used water go?
Used water drains into a sealed grey-water tank inside the base and is pumped out at service.
Do I need a station if I already have hand sanitizer in the units?
Sanitizer does not replace handwashing where food is handled. Add a station near any food or catering line.
